Anti-Bullying Policy
1. Purpose and Scope
Chatterbox Media is dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive working environment for all its employees, contractors, clients, and visitors. This Anti-Bullying Policy outlines our commitment to preventing and addressing any form of bullying within our workplace, in line with UK best practices for media companies.
2. Definition of Bullying
Bullying is defined as persistent, offensive, abusive, intimidating, malicious, or insulting behaviour that makes an individual feel upset, threatened, humiliated, or vulnerable. This can take the form of:
- Verbal or written abuse
- Offensive emails, tweets or comments on social media
- Public humiliation
- Exclusion or victimisation
- Unfair treatment
- Overbearing supervision or misuse of power
3. Responsibility
Everyone associated with Chatterbox Media is responsible for maintaining a respectful workplace and preventing bullying. Management holds a special responsibility to lead by example and address reported concerns promptly.
4. Reporting Bullying
a. Employees who believe they are being bullied or have witnessed bullying should report it immediately to their supervisor or the designated HR representative.
b. Confidentiality will be maintained throughout the investigation process, only involving individuals on a need-to-know basis.
c. No employee will face retaliation for reporting bullying. Retaliation against an individual for reporting bullying is a violation of this policy and will result in disciplinary action.
5. Investigation
a. Upon receiving a report, an immediate and thorough investigation will be initiated, adhering to the principles of natural justice.
b. Both the complainant and the alleged perpetrator will be interviewed separately, and any witnesses or evidence will be reviewed.
c. A resolution will be sought as soon as possible. The findings will be communicated to both parties, and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
6. Remedies and Sanctions
If bullying is confirmed, appropriate action will be taken which might include:
- Formal apology
- Mediation
- Training or counselling
- Disciplinary action, which can range from a warning to dismissal, depending on the severity of the bullying.
7. Prevention
a. Training: Chatterbox Media will provide regular training on this Anti-Bullying Policy and on fostering a positive workplace culture.
b. Monitoring: Supervisors and managers will remain vigilant for signs of bullying and will promptly address any issues that arise.
c. Communication: This policy will be made accessible to all employees, and its principles will be incorporated into other relevant company policies and procedures.
8. External Resources
Employees can seek external guidance or counselling from relevant organisations such as ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) or industry-specific unions.
9. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or as required to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with current best practices and legal requirements.
